In 1929, Lucy Morgan began an educational experiment at Penland to support creative traditions and build community through instruction in craft. Today, Penland School of Crafts is a national center for craft education offering workshops with craft's finest instructors, a resident artist program that nurtures artistic careers, and a gallery that presents extraordinary craft work to thousands of visitors each year.
