Areas of Interest/Specialties

I enjoy teaching writing, and am very comfortable leading students in poetry-writing exercises. This is by no means relegated to language arts, however. Reinforcing science or social studies material by writing poems is also valuable work. I’ve even had students write math poems!

Teaching Artist Statement

My emphasis is writing. I enjoy pushing kids to write more imaginatively, with stronger verbs, sensory details, and word play. I also feel it is very important for young writers to receive feedback (peer and instructor) and revise based on that feedback. After working with me, I most hope to impress upon students the belief that revision will improve his/her writing.
