Tasmanian Artist Patrick Hall to Speak at Penland
Tasmanian sculptor and furniture maker Patrick Hall will give a lecture about his work at the Ridgeway Building at Penland School of Crafts on Saturday, September 20 at 7:00 PM. Working at the intersection between functional craft and pure sculpture, Hall was the first artist to be designated a “Treasured Tasmanian.”
Hall has completed a number of public art projects and his almost indescribable studio furniture has been exhibited widely in Australia and internationally. He has developed a strong following in the U.S. where he has been a regular exhibitor at the Chicago and New York SOFA Expositions. Hall describes his meticulously detailed pieces as "emotional filing cabinets...an attempt to store and order the intangible.” Writing in her book about Hall’s work, Grace Cochrane said, “In Patrick Hall's intricately crafted cabinets, fabricated objects combine with intimate narratives and personal histories to reveal poetic glimpses into the human experience.”
This lecture is presented as part of Hall’s residency at the Center for Craft, Creativity and Design in Hendersonville. For more information, call 828-765-2359.
