The Campaign for Penland’s Future

view of penland from over the meadowThe Campaign for Penland’s Future began in 2010 as a comprehensive campaign to create a sustainable future for one of the craft world’s most important educational centers.

The goals of the campaign are to strengthen the studios, housing, and other facilities used for Penland’s programs; to rescue and reuse Penland’s historic buildings; to increase endowments in support of scholarships, specific programs, and general operations; and to create vigorous growth in the annual fund.

The campaign goal is to raise at least $30 million over five years for these three areas:

• Infrastructure Improvement—$20+ million
• Endowment Growth—$6+ million
• Annual Fund Growth—achieve a sustainable $650,000 annually

With donor-driven interests guiding our success, the Campaign for Penland’s Future, as of March 21, 2016, has raised a total of $30,830,551:

• Infrastructure Improvement—$16,813,852
• Endowment Growth—$8,801,260
• Annual Fund Growth—$3,831,721
• General Program Support—$1,383,718

Although we have hit the $30 million mark, we know from the designs now in place that construction estimates on our last five projects will exceed that goal. We anticipate the need for $32 million to complete the new Core House, the new Northlight with photo and paper studios, the Craft House log restoration, Dora’s Place, and Heyman House. We will charge ahead towards completing this campaign – thank you for being part of Penland!
