Community Collaboration/Development Intern
Position Summary:
The Community Collaboration/Development intern supports and implements Community Collaboration initiatives while learning aboutprograms and activities and assisting the Development Associate for Grants with research and grants management tasks. The intern will assist with materials preparation for TAI programs, support for Kids Camp activities, and some administrative work including data entry and transcription. The internship also includes planning and implementing hands-on activities in the community at festivals and/or at community centers. The internship period is mid-May through mid-August, full time (40 hours/week). The intern’s time will be divided between Community Collaboration and Development depending on the needs and schedules of these areas.
Responsibilities:
Assist with preparation for grant reporting and evaluation activities, including data entry, transcription of notes, other duties as necessary.
Assist with materials preparation for TAI school activities, including cutting paper and book boards, receiving materials orders, organizing materials, other duties as necessary.
Assist with Kids Camp activities, including processing student materials on first day of camp, documenting camp activities through photos, assisting instructors as needed, supervising cleanup at end of camp sessions.
Assist with grant research, including looking for funding sources that might support TAI and other Penland programs.
Design and implementation of a community-based project (this will be designed in consultation with the Manager of Community Collaboration, and will consist of a series of art workshops in collaboration with a community organization).
Assist with community activities (Carolina Mountains Literary Festival, Troutacular, Storytelling Festival, etc.)
Create and update records in donor database.
Assist with issuing receipts and writing thank you letters for donations received.
Assist with writing notifications of funding to distribute to key staff.
Support the Grants Associate with grants management tasks as assigned.

Physical Demands:
This position requires the applicant walk unaided up and down hills and over uneven terrain, bend, stoop, reach above their head, have use of fine and gross motor skills, and work in close quarters. The applicant must have normal visual acuity at near and far distance with correction and hear the spoken word with correction. The applicant must be fluent in English. The position demands frequent exposure to inclement weather. While performing the duties of this job, the applicant is regularly required to sit and to work at a computer. The applicant is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools, or controls and to talk fluently. The applicant must occasionally lift and/or move heavy objects weighing up to 75 pounds.
Compensation:
All housing and meals will be provided at no charge to the intern for the duration of the internship period. Class and studio access is not part of the compensation package.
