Evening Security
Position Summary
The Evening Security is responsible for troubleshooting potential problems on campus during evening and early morning hours. He or she is expected to use sound judgment in defusing problems without threatening his or her own safety and then relating those problems to the appropriate staff person. The Evening Security also acts as a resource to help students and faculty with off-hour needs. Areas of responsibility include safety in the studios, monitoring parties for disorderly behavior and sound levels, assisting people with emergency needs, and the reporting of power outages for service restoration. The evening security is on call during non-business hours. This is a 30 hour, benefits eligible, seasonal position (March–November). This position reports to the deputy director.
Primary Responsibilities
Enforces school policies.
Works with studio coordinators to learn about specific problems of each studio.
Confers with the registrar to identify underage students in order to enforce alcohol consumption policies.
Provides safety policy recommendations.
Identifies and reports maintenance and safety-related problems.
Works closely with core students and administration during campus special events to ensure smooth operations and the best possible event environment. Monitors for disorderly or inappropriate behavior at these events.
Works with the director of facilities to execute minor maintenance duties such as replacing light bulbs or plunging clogged drains.
Transports students and instructors for non-emergency medical treatment.
Must maintain annual first-aid certification.
Works 6 nights per week with weekly rotations of time off on alternating Saturday and Sunday nights.
Qualifications
Must be at least 21 years of age with demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and resolve conflicts.
Must have a valid drivers license.
Must possess excellent people skills and the ability to work effectively with groups.
Knowledge of basic first aid procedures and general maintenance skills are preferred.
The evening security person must choose to reside in Penland housing or live within close proximity to campus in order to allow for a 15 minute maximum on-call response time.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects, tools or controls and to speak fluently and to hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. The employee is frequently required to stand and to walk in areas of the campus with uneven terrain. The employee is regularly exposed to inclement weather conditions. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more.
